The California Zephyr is one of America's most celebrated passenger trains, particularly renowned for its spectacular scenery.
Operating between Chicago and Oakland from 1949 to 1970, the train was jointly operated by the CB&Q (Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad), Denver & Rio Grande Western (D&RGW), and Western Pacific Railroad.
Passengers could enjoy breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains, Feather River Canyon, and other scenic landscapes from its distinctive Vista Dome cars.
Thanks to its unparalleled vistas, the California Zephyr earned the nickname "the most scenic train in the world."
Features
The former 11-car consist has been redesigned as a 4-car starter set (locomotive + 3 passenger cars) and a separate 8-car add-on set.
