Product Description
The Class 800 is a hybrid intercity train designed as part of the UK’s Intercity Express Programme (IEP) to replace aging HST (High-Speed Train) units. On electrified lines, it draws power via a pantograph, while on non-electrified sections, it operates using onboard engines and generator units, allowing for seamless operation across both electrified and non-electrified routes. Manufactured by Hitachi’s Kasado Works in Japan, the Class 800 was developed under the company’s A-Train concept, adapting Japanese rail technology to suit the UK's rail infrastructure and operational needs. This model reproduces the 5-car formations currently in service on two of the UK’s main operators: GWR (Great Western Railway) and LNER (London North Eastern Railway). Thanks to the coupling mechanism at the front ends, it is also possible to recreate the real-world 10-car formations (5+5).
Features
Modeled after the GWR Unit 800021.
The GWR unit features a beautifully rendered corporate moss green body, including the orange warning stripe above the windows commonly seen on UK trains to indicate overhead lines.
The side display sections are printed in solid black. Door switches and emergency release handles beside the doors are also represented through printed details.
The GWR unit includes the “GWR” logo on the front (which was only added after its initial launch) and features the identification markings around the marker light above the first-class lead car.
Equipped with a front-end coupling mechanism, allowing for reproduction of 10-car formations (5+5 unit coupling), as seen in actual operation.
Uses a flywheel-equipped motor unit.
All cars use disc brake-style wheels, including the motor car. The motor car has no traction tires, allowing for smooth double-unit operation.
Comes in a 5-car bookcase-style package, same size as the ICE4 set.
