Product Description
Under the Intercity Express Programme (IEP) promoted in the UK, the Class 800 was introduced to replace the aging HST (High-Speed Train) diesel fleet. Developed based on Hitachi's “A-train” concept, it operates seamlessly on both electrified and non-electrified lines—drawing power from overhead lines via pantograph in electrified sections, and using onboard engine-generator units to power the motors in non-electrified areas. Manufactured at Hitachi’s Kasado Works in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, as well as at Hitachi Rail’s UK factory, the train is currently in service with LNER (London North Eastern Railway)—a major British mainline operator—under the name “AZUMA.” Its front-end design, reminiscent of kumadori (traditional Kabuki makeup), gives the train a striking appearance. The Class 800/2 is a 5-car set equipped with front-end coupling mechanisms, allowing for realistic 10-car formations (5+5) as seen in actual operations.
Features
Streamlined body with tapered ends to comply with structure gauge limitations.
Identification markings around the upper marker lights on the first-class end carriage.
Includes distinctive features such as the kabuki-inspired front-end design, the fine striping around the windows, the mechanical equipment on the roof, and the “LNER” and “AZUMA” logo.
Side display panels are printed with a solid black background. The door switches and emergency door release mechanisms next to each door are also printed on.
Equipped with a front-end coupling mechanism, allowing for realistic 10-car (5+5) formations, just like the actual trains.
All cars are equipped with wheels with realistic disc brake details. To enable stable operation when coupling two sets, traction tires are not included in the powered cars.
Comes in a 5-car bookcase, the same size as that of the ICE4 set.
