The VT 18.16 was a high-speed diesel multiple unit introduced in 1963 by the East German State Railway (DR) for international services. In 1970, the class was redesignated BR 175 and received a new livery featuring an ivory body with red stripes. With a top speed of 160 km/h, the train combined a sleek streamlined body with comfortable onboard amenities and became one of East Germany’s most prestigious express trains. It was used on a number of international services, including the famous “Vindobona,” linking Berlin with destinations such as Prague, Vienna, Copenhagen, and Malmö.
