While the Rhaetian Railway is widely associated with its iconic red trains today, many of its locomotives and passenger coaches were painted green until the 1980s. The preservation group "GRÜN & CHROM" ("Green & Chrome"), which is dedicated to preserving historic locomotives and coaches from that era, has been restoring active service vehicles to their former appearance.

As the first project of this initiative, locomotive No. 611, the very first member of the Ge4/4 II class, was refurbished with its classic green livery, complete with raised chrome-plated side logos and nameplates. The locomotive entered service in the spring of 2023, marking the 50th anniversary of the prototype's debut.
