KATO’s RhB series began with the Glacier Express, and has since expanded to include the Bernina Express and EW I passenger coaches, to offer a more complete and diverse range. An essential addition to this lineup is the EW I series DS4223 luggage car. Operating along routes that pass through world-famous tourist destinations, the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) frequently carries passengers with large baggage—bicycles in summer, ski gear in winter—making luggage cars a common sight across nearly all lines. The model is based on cars built in 1980, which were retrofitted with pantographs around 2009. These pantographs supply auxiliary power for heating and air conditioning, particularly when the luggage car is part of longer consists, such as 12-car trains.
