“Tze-Chiang Limited Express” (自強号) is the name used for the all-reserved-seat limited express train service on Taiwan Railways. Introduced in 1996, the “PP Tze-Chiang Limited Express” operates using the E1000-series push-pull trainsets, which consist of South African-built locomotives (power cars) with Korean- and Taiwanese-built passenger coaches (trailers) between them. Because these trains operate in push-pull (PP) formation, the designation “PP” is included in the name.

The trains normally run with 12 passenger coaches, including cars that have been updated to match passenger needs, such as a former half-dining car converted into a family-friendly “parent and child” car with free space for families and pregnant passengers, as well as cars where the onboard sales preparation room has been converted into a nursing room. The locomotives are gradually being replaced by the newer E500 class, and services using E500 locomotives with E1000 coaches are now being introduced across Taiwan.
